About BEA

The Affymetrix core facility at Novum was established January 1st 2001. Until July 2005, grants from the WCN (Wallenberg Consortium North, the Gene Expression Profiling and Bio-informatic platforms) to Karin Dahlman-Wright are providing support primarily for salaries. The core facility is satisfying a need to conduct high throughput RNA (gene expression profiling) and DNA (SNP) analysis. Affymetrix provides working and well validated solutions for these types of analysis.

Our Lab has been offered the Academic Microarray Core Laboratory Program by Affymetrix. This program is offered to centres that have the ability to provide extensive service and know-how. In 2003, a grant from the Research Board of the Karolinska Institute allowed us to create BEA, the Bioinformatics and Expression Analysis core facility. BEA provides infrastructure, expertise, service and training for:

• - The Affymetrix platform (gene expression profiling, genetic linkage studies and genome wide association studies).
• - Bioinformatics (sequence analysis, gene expression analysis and human genetic applications).

Commision

The commission by the board of research is to establish a core facility for bioinformatics and expression analysis.
